We have recently begun undertaking a builders clean on a large distribution centre – Magna Park Plot 520 based in Milton Keynes. Constructed using 3500 tonnes of steel the building measures 200 meters wide by 350 meters long and is 23 meters high, this distribution centre is one of the largest we have worked on. In layman’s terms the building could accommodate ten full size football pitches and at 786,322sqft it dwarfs a lot of other distribution centres that are popping up all over the country some of which we have also carried out the Clean on.
Our objective is to complete the clean within a 5-week timeframe; this therefore requires large amounts of labour and long days to meet deadlines. Our material consumption on this site is also vast, from machines to cleaning solutions to general cleaning products, both labour and materials have been carefully organised to ensure the site is handed over on time and to a very high standard. Our director is present on site daily safeguarding our work force and meeting with project managers to pass on updates of the clean.
We have recently gained our level 3 with Construction Line, a must to work on any Volker Fitzpatrick site; therefore all our guys on site adhere to our strict health and safety requirements as well as site requirements and are fully up to date with the latest Health and Safety procedures. Our Construction Line Gold/Level 3 membership also includes a Health and Safety SSIP Certificate. At Eco we understand the need to regularly update all our Health and Safety and keep our guys well trained on changes in legislation and being accredited by Construction Line means we can be recognised as a safe supplier by all industries.
High level cleaning is one of the biggest asks on this sight, so hiring in machines has been imperative. The machines we are using to complete all high level cleaning are Scissor Lifts and Booms.
Again with High Level cleaning we are focused on safety as well as completing a fantastic cleaning job, so all staff operating the high level machinery must have a valid IPAF certificate.
The scope of works for Magna Park Plot 520 is extensive so sticking to a strict programme of works is key in completing the job on time. The areas to cover are-
*Offices including warehouse ancillary offices, kitchen and dining areas
*Warehouse and Adjacent Corridors – including dock levellers
*Entrance Doors and Side Screens
All the above areas require an initial clean followed by further cleaning towards take over or access date.
Unfortunately when working on construction sites the main complication you can come against is that other contractors are completing there tasks and therefore areas that have been initially cleaned once already can be back to square one again after another contractor has been in the room to complete there snagging.
This can be extremely frustrating and waste huge amounts of time for our guys when other areas need to be completed and time is fundamental when we are at the latter stages of such an immense project.
As we have carried out many builders cleans in the past we are fully aware of these obstacles that are common place within the industry, so when placing labour on jobs we take these concerns into consideration and be sure to place enough labour/materials so that the job is completed to a tremendous standard and with as little stress as possible.
